Person-Centred Counselling

I am a Person-Centred Counsellor which is part of the Humanistic school of counselling.  This was developed by Carl Rogers in the 1940s who believed that a person always sought growth and that human beings had the desire to reach their full potential.

As a pluralistic, person-centred counsellor, I am able and confident to use a range of techniques to help you on your journey.

Modality

Carl Rogers

Carl Rogers was an American Psychologist and the founder of Person-Centred counselling.  Rogers believed that all individuals sought growth and had the desire to reach their full potential.

Person-centred skills

The Person-centred approach is a non-directive type of counselling.  You are in the driving seat, and I am the passenger with you on your journey.  You are in control of what you bring to sessions.

I will use certain skills to ensure that you are being heard (paraphrasing, summarising and reflecting back key words)

The Core Conditions

As a person-centred counsellor, I embrace the conditions that promote acceptance, trust and honesty.

They are:

  • Congruence

  • Unconditional positive regard

  • Empathy

What I can offer you

I can offer you a safe space to talk openly and freely without fear of judgement.  Every client can request a free consultation to discuss what has brought them to counselling, what they would like to achieve and the next steps moving forward and what is best for them.  I offer a minimum of 6 sessions, but this is regularly reviewed and is not limited to 6 sessions.  Long and short-term counselling offers are available.  DC Counselling Service is a flexible service that offers remote options as well as in-person counselling if you are local to Southend-on-Sea or the surrounding areas.
